Famous authors have the best storylines because of how much they imagine and try to get away from reality. Margaret Mitchell is a victim of this. Margaret Mitchell was a novelist and journalist. She wrote one of the best selling novels to ever exist, Gone With the Wind. Ever since she was a little girl she would always make stories up and tell them to people even before she could write. Margaret Mitchell faced many challenges that people don’t usually deal with. While Margaret was away in college during her first semester her mom got ill. The deadly flu pandemic was going around and Margaret was told to go home before the mother passed. When she arrived at the train station she noticed that her mother had passed but left a letter. The mother left a death note to her daughter which was very bitter, sweet and depressing. The mother wanted her to not be taken advantage of by the father and do things for herself. She wanted Margaret to be independent and successful. Another hardship Margaret faced was her love life. She married a man named Red, who her family did not approve of because he didn’t have a job or will to work. Red physically and emotionally abused Margaret until she met another mad man who paid off Red to get a divorce. Margaret faced many struggles but those were the most important ones she faced. It led to making one of the best stories. Which received many awards and is used everywhere in US schools to interpret the literature. Gone with the wind is about a character that is going through a love triangle, which is very similar to what Margaret had to deal with. She also uses the Civil War as the background time frame focusing on the hardships. Margaret Mitchell was known for story telling which shows how much she imagined and wanted that escape from reality. There has to be some harsh reality when coming up with storylines for authors. Which, for Margaret was her abusive relationships and mother passing. Margaret tried to focus on what her mother warned her about but it was shown through her life that she does get taken advantage of. Margaret did end up living with her father for most of her life and she was stuck in a toxic relationship. She persevered through and found the love of her life. Then, went on to write the best novels to ever be out.
The letter itself was heart wrenching. The mother is writing her last thoughts out to her daughter which include her not wanting Margaret to get taken advantage of. The mother keeps it sweet and positive at the beginning making sure Margaret knows that if she dies that this is the best time for it to happen. Also, the mother expresses that she has had a full life and she married the love of her life and prepared her children. Then, she goes into her warning for Margaret saying “but if I do not I must warn you of one mistake a woman of your temperament might fall into.” (Your Loving Mother) Which shows how she went into a deep topic about Margaret getting taken advantage of and was scared for her.
