It amazes me the trust that people had in relationships when the only way they could communicate was through letters. Now there is so much more communication methods but still people can have serious trust issues. In the letters of Dear Bessie they acknowledge that both of them broke up with their significant others and realized how much they loved each other. A person would believe someone they liked just by a written message. These letters were also a sense of reassurance for couples being able to write them pages about how much they loved eachother other. After reading Robert and Elizabeth Browning letters they wrote to each other, it gave me another side to writing letters. They were poets and reading them it gets confusing because he mentions loving her too much he has to let go. They were so expressive with how they felt about each other that it was easy to note how much they meant to each other and how important the letters they were sending to each other were. My favorite part about the letter was how it started “You are mine, I am yours” It seemed that they started every letter with that which must be very important to them. After reading these love letters it brings back the feeling of old romance. Where the boy sweeps the girl off the feet and they live happily ever after. Through the letters you could feel the romance and it feels like in the 21st century we lost that romance, which is very sad.
