For this weeks class I read James Reynolds letter to the famous Alexander Hamilton. I had background knowledge from the popular Hamilton broadway show. The context behind the letter is that Alexander is having an affair with James wife and he finds out. James decides to blackmail Hamilton and writes to him constantly asking for money. I researched a little more and it said that Maria Reynolds told Hamilton that her husband left her and that she needed aid. There are lots of conspiracies that the Reynolds had this whole plan to destroy Hamilton. They make this letter a big part in the show because in the show they make you fall in love with Eliza, Hamiltons wife and it makes you think he is a bad guy. Shows that even though Hamilton is doing so many goods he is also making many faults and that affairs were very common during that period of time. Men would go off to war and not come home for a while and the wife would have no idea.
